What was the origin-of-the-earth?
If you do an Internet search and type origin-of-the-earth into the popular Wikipedia.org site, you will automatically be redirected to a very long article titled “History of the Earth”. The article begins by stating that history “. . . describes the most important events and fundamental stages in the development of the planet Earth from its formation 4.6 billion years ago to the present day. Nearly all branches of natural science have contributed to the understanding of the main events of the Earth's past. The age of Earth is approximately one-third of the age of the universe.”
In the following paragraphs, you will be introduced to two of the “eons” that allegedly followed.
Then, almost as an aside, you will be told about the alleged origins of the solar system, starting as follows: “The Solar System (including the Earth) formed from a large, rotating cloud of interstellar dust and gas called the solar nebula, orbiting the Milky Way's galactic center. It was composed of hydrogen and helium created shortly after the Big Bang 13.7 Ga and heavier elements ejected by supernovas.”
And there is much, much more. To the casual reader, at least if one is not well educated in cosmic evolution, the material will be new, but it is also somewhat matter-of-fact in its presentation. –My “take” is that although such phrases as “The now widely accepted nebular hypothesis suggests . . .” show some lack of certainty, the whole thing is pretty much meant to be inferred as FACTUAL. –After all, were not the decades of research and numerous writings done by very learned people in the name of “science”? –Who are you and I to even begin to QUESTION what we are told?
So, though billions of years were said to have been involved, we are led to believe that mankind has figured it all out! Starting with a “Big Bang” all the elements somehow came into being and in just the right ways for us to see what can be seen today.
Do scientists really know what happened?
But do worldly (evolutionary) “scientists” in the fields of astronomy, astrophysics, and so many other disciplines of the alleged “natural sciences” really know the origin of the earth, the “solar system”, and the universe?
Consider what follows:
Let us look at a relatively recent book that tells about a meeting of distinguished scientists who gathered to consider questions of origins: It is titled ORIGIN AND EVOLUTION OF EARTH: RESEARCH QUESTIONS FOR A CHANGING PLANET and was published by The National Academies Press, 500 Fifth Street N.W., Washington, DC 20001 (Copyright 2008 by the National Academy of the Sciences).
The “Summary” starts:
“Modern science has its roots in fundamental questions about the origins of Earth and life. These grand questions are recorded in texts of the ancient Greeks, who laid the foundations of Earth science and whose language provides many of its terms.”
After giving a quick history of more modern thought that the earth must be very old (based on looking at rocks and some fossils in them), it says (page 1) that with the discovery of atoms, and that some of them decayed over time because of radiation: “The first accurate measurement of Earth’s age, 4.55 billion years, made in the mid-1950’s (Patterson, 1956), was a major step in establishing a timescale for Earth, for life, and for the Universe.”
On page 2, the report gives the “ultimate objective” of a distinguished body of scientists brought together: “. . . to capture . . . the essential scientific issues that constitute the frontier of Earth science at the start of the 21st century.”
On page 3, it begins listing “the 10 grand research questions identified by the committee”. They include:“1. How did Earth and other planets form?” and,“2. What happened during Earth’s ‘dark age’ (the first 500 million years)?” and,“3. How did life begin?”
In Chapter 1, “Origins”, starting on page 7, after “QUESTION 1” is stated, the first paragraph begins as follows:
“One of the most challenging and relevant questions about Earth’s formation is why our planet is the only one n the Solar System with abundant liquid water at its surface and abundant carbon in forms that can be used to make organic matter.”
The following text states that these and related questions are “longstanding” but only recently, by various named scientific advances, are the answers beginning to be seen.
An interesting statement follows (also on page 7):
“And although we know in general how to make a planet like Earth – starting with some stardust and allowing gravity, radiation, and thermodynamics to do their parts – our answers often serve only to refine our questions.”
It then says “a mouthful”, if you will allow me to quote the following sentence:
“For example, the details of Earth’s chemical composition – such as how much of the heat-producing elements uranium, thorium, and potassium it contains; how much oxygen and carbon it contains; and how it came to have its particular allotment of noble gases and other minor constituents – turn out to be critical to models of Earth’s geological processes and, ultimately, to understanding why Earth has remained suitable for life over most of its history.”
You must decide what is the truth
Now, how do those statements make you feel about the deep knowledge of evolutionists/scientists about the origin-of-the-earth? --Did “a little stardust” just happen to come together just right to form this amazing Earth? (Notice that such hypotheses and theories are always built around millions or billions of years – as though time can somehow make it happen!)
Or did a loving and wise God design and create this Earth and what we commonly call the “solar system” as a special place to begin His greatest creation of all, mankind?
The “religion” of the Bible is much more believable than the religion of evolution and their myths of creation.
And this website, Genesis Creation Proof, begins to present some of the true science that confirms Genesis and the whole Bible on this important faith-building topic.
